About Giants of Buffalo:
Sponsored by M&T THIRD FRIDAYS, The Buffalo History Museum inaugurated the first GIANTS OF BUFFALO in 2013 as a discussion series to spotlight specific industries and fete Western New York individuals who have made extraordinary contributions in their field of the chosen industry.
The concept of the program is to share local history that engages the audience and the guest speakers in an informal multimedia talk - show format about their personal stories as experienced by career choices, industry practices of the day, impact on our region, and inevitable changes.
At each program, honorees are awarded a handsomely framed certificate of honor from The Buffalo History Museum. The Giants program honors individuals living: working or retired; individuals may also be honored posthumously with family, peers and or friends invited to share personal stories. An appropriate moderator assists in keeping the program discussion dynamic.
Program booklets are distributed to attendees as information pieces that serve as keepsakes with the honorees’ bio and other program notes. Subsequently, the program booklet is archived in the Research Library collection. Artifacts, photos, and ephemera related to the historic backdrop of the industry and or individual are exhibited.
A cocktail and hors d’oeuvre reception in the State Court precedes the program held in the auditorium.
Selection Process:
Individuals honored at the Giants of Buffalo program are selected by a committee of 6 to7 members: The Buffalo History Museum board members, staff, and a collaborating partner. (For example: Giants of Buffalo: TV works in collaboration with the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame)
