Tours of the historic Larkin District and South Buffalo neighborhoods have been added to Explore Buffalo’s growing list of exciting summertime tours!

Larkin District

Meet: Outside Flying Bison Brewery, 840 Seneca St., Buffalo, corner of Seneca and Lord streets. Parking is available in the Flying Bison parking lot.

The Larkin District, or Larkinville, is the reborn former home of the Larkin Soap Company. In the early 1900s, the Larkin Company was one of the largest mail order companies in the country, and one of its executives, Darwin D. Martin, was responsible for bringing Frank Lloyd Wright to Buffalo. Today, the former Larkin factories and warehouses have been brought back to life and the area is bustling with activity once again. Join us to explore the Larkin Company's past while enjoying the revitalized neighborhood. This tour includes a visit to the Larkin Gallery inside the Larkin Center of Commerce.

South Buffalo Walking Tour

Meet: Buffum House, 49 Buffum St., Buffalo. Street parking is available on Buffum Street and other nearby streets in the neighborhood.

Discover the history of South Buffalo on this neighborhood walking tour! This tour will tell the story of South Buffalo's growth, from the Native American residents of the Buffalo Creek Reservation to its development into a city neighborhood. Along the way, you'll stop at various neighborhood landmarks and points of interest to bring the stories of this unique Buffalo neighborhood to life. This tour highlights the Olmsted-designed Cazenovia Park and recent restoration projects along Seneca Street.

South Buffalo by Bike

Meet: Buffalo Irish Center, 245 Abbot Road, Buffalo

On this bike tour, discover the history and hidden gems of South Buffalo. From scenic parks and parkways to landmark churches and schools, this tour will reveal South Buffalo's remarkable history. Learn about some of the historical figures who have made an impact on South Buffalo and on the City of Buffalo, including Tim Russert, Mayor Jimmy Griffin and Navy hero C. Wade McCluskey. This tour by bike will be a leisurely paced tour covering approximately 5.5 miles of distance over two hours.

Helmets are required for all tour participants. Each tour participant must have a bicycle in good working condition. Participants are also required to sign a waiver before the tour. The minimum age for this tour is 14 years old.

This tour is approximately two hours and 5.5 miles in length. Please wear appropriate footwear and dress for the weather. In the event of heavy rain or other severe weather, this tour will be canceled. Cameras are encouraged!
