The long Labor Day Weekend kicks off tonight in Allentown with a special edition of First Friday Gallery Walk. The Art Chase Scavenger Hunt convenes teams of four at Hyatt's at 6:00pm. Be part of a team or watch the fun. There's even an app for that! If you're up for a flick, we recommend Movie Night at Iron Works. Pulp Fiction on a 14 foot screen? Oh yeah! Be there by 8:00. And it's free!
But Labor Day weekend in Buffalo is really all about wings. Yes, Wing Fest, the annual inspired-by-a-movie mega-event that draws wing makers and wing eaters from across the country, starts at Noon on both Saturday and Sunday at Coca-Cola Field. If you have never experienced the Wing Fest, you owe yourself a visit. It truly is unique. Admission is just $5, wings sold separately. And the stage is non-stop. Joey Chestnut and hapless wanna-bees will consume a ridiculous number of wings at 5:00pm on Sunday, wrapping up an event that can only be in Buffalo.
Or, be at Canalside bright and early Saturday morning to meet and greet (and shop from) a bevy of local artists and artisans at the Saturday Artisan Market, then head over to Caz Park for the South Buffalo Irish Festival, designed specifically for those who just couldn't get enough Celtic joy (or beer) last weekend on the Outer Harbor. If you're still feeling a bit artistic following the Market, scoot out to Lancaster for Arts in the Village, another free all day event on Saturday featuring art, food, music and fun. There's even a kid's tent.
Sunday afternoon, head downtown to the beach. That's right. Deep South Taco, Buffalo’s hippest taqueria, is throwing Adios El Summer-o, buffalo’s biggest beach party. How? By filling the parking lot with truckloads of sand and conjuring up a...wait for it...mechanical shark!
On Monday, after a sleep in and the annual backyard picnic, head to the Mohawk for a real treat. Firestarter will be on stage, along with the Andrew Hambridge Band, The Good Neighbors, Mindy Davey, & Nuke Fun. Doors are at 6:00, and it's 16+, $10 pre-sale, $15 at the door. Tuck the kids in with a sitter and end Labor Day Weekend with a bang.
