While many may think of this classic scene from Animal House when talking about head-to-toe corduroy, this staple fall fabric is definitely worth further exploration. Corduroy pants are always embraced when the temperatures start dipping because of their warmth and comfort, but I've also been noticing a lot of corduroy shirts popping up in stores. After trying one on in Target, I now understand why. Imagine the comfort you get from wearing corduroy pants... but everywhere
Naturally you wouldn't want to pair all of these items together at once as it may not be deemed socially acceptable, but many stores like Gap and J.Crew are offering corduroy suits for fall and the look definitely works. One important thing to remember when shopping for corduroy is looking at the wale (or width) of the cord; the lower the number, the thicker the cord. If you go too thick, the pants will look bulky and unflattering. Too thin, and it starts to look like velvet. Somewhere between 8 and 14 wale is the sweet spot. Take a look at some of our favorite corduroy pieces below and start amassing your own collection. You'll notice we've omitted some of the more obvious corduroy colors (brown/khaki) for some of the more interesting fall colors like navy, maroon, forest green and mustard. Branch out a little, so you don't end up looking like Professor Jennings up there... unless that's what you're going for.
