RED
710 Main Theatre
Fri Mar 14 – Sun Mar 30
Master abstract expressionist Mark Rothko has just landed the biggest commission in the history of modern art, a series of murals for New York's famed Four Seasons Restaurant. But soon Rothko faces the agonizing possibility that his crowning achievement could also become his undoing. Raw and provocative, RED is a searing portrait of an artist's ambition and vulnerability as he tries to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting. Winner of the 2010 Tony® Award, RED is playwright John Logan's extraordinary work about art and the 20th century.
MusicalFare Theatre Artistic/Executive Director, Randall Kramer, states "RED is one of the most exhilarating plays I have ever read! I can't wait to bring it to the 710 stage."
Please see official site for showtimes.
Good People
Kavinoky Theatre
Fri Mar 14 – Sun Mar 30
The Kavinoky Theatre, a professional theatre on the campus of D'Youville College, is gearing up to unveil one of its most anticipated productions of the season. David Lindsay-Abaire's GOOD PEOPLE opens on March 7 and runs a limited four-week engagement through March 30, 2014.
Welcome to Southie, a Boston neighborhood where a night on the town means a few rounds of bingo, where this month's paycheck covers last month's bills, and where Margie Walsh has just been let go from yet another job. Facing eviction and scrambling to catch a break, Margie thinks an old fling who's made it out of Southie might be her ticket to a fresh new start. But is this apparently self-made man secure enough to face his humble beginnings? Margie is about to risk what little she has left to find out. With his signature humorous glow, Lindsay-Abaire explores the struggles, shifting loyalties and unshakeable hopes that come with having next to nothing in America.
The Kavinoky Theatre's production features Eileen Dugan, Anne Gayley, April A. Jones, Lisa Ludwig, and Peter Palmisano. Directed by Robert Waterhouse, The Kavinoky's stellar design team has pulled out all the stops for this important and illuminating play. David King's pitch-perfect set, Brian Cavanagh's lighting design, Geoffrey Tocin's sound design, and Dixon Reynolds's costumes will transport us to modern-day America. See official site for showtimes.

Swearin’
Waiting Room
Sat Mar 15
Swearin' operates and shines like a well-oiled, pragmatic machine. Their complimentary personalities, solid work-ethic, and similar backgrounds in DIY punk, have helped them thrive. Formed in 2011 in Brooklyn, Allison Crutchfield (guitar) and Kyle Gilbride (guitar) had been making demos for nearly a year before inviting Keith Spencer (bass) into the equation. The trio eventually added longtime friend and Philadelphia resident Jeff Bolt on drums, releasing their demo EP What a Dump shortly thereafter.
The demo received instant praise from Brooklyn's indie punk scene and beyond. It combined the sounds of Gilbride and Crutchfield's prior bands (Big Soda and P.S. Eliot, respectively) while stretching into new territories of fuzzed guitars and compounded song structures. Official site here.
