from Buffalowins
We own Germany, Finland and all of California. Gosh, how King George III must be proud of the way we have taken over the world!
The Sabres just made it look too easy over the last two days. Outscoring their opponents 8-3 and really just coasting to easy victories. From Vanek to Luke Adam to Ryan Miller, a number of players contributed for the Sabres 4 points. The defense looks great, as Miller really hasn't been tested all that much so far on the season. It's pretty surprising when you consider the way the defense played against an LA team that has a lot of offensive weapons. It was also impressive when you consider that the Sabres got to their hotel at 5:00am last night and were still able to drop 4 goals on the Kings.
As for the Europe experience, I think it's great for the players to bond together for a week. I'm sure they will all talk about how it made the group grow together and it should. Months from now, we may look back at this experience as a way to see the players grow together as a cohesive unit. Hey, ask anyone who goes on road trips for work with co-workers. When you are with them 24/7, you tend to grow a bond. Alright, maybe sometimes you want to kill the person, but we will pretend that's not the case with these guys.
Now to some random thoughts:
---The first line of Pommer-Adam-Vanek have been lights out so far this year. Please, Lindy... Let's try and stick with this first line for at least a couple of weeks. For the first two games, the line has combined for 13 points. Luke Adam has been really impressive and is proving that when you put him with offensive guys like #26 and #29, he's going to contribute. Obviously, Adam will not be on pace for 180 points, but if he can give the Sabres consistent play at center, then look out. The thing that the line is doing well collectively is that they are crashing the net. Both of Adam's goals were about working hard and going to the net. As Robie always says, "Just get the puck on net and good things will happen."
---Take your pick: #55, #36 or #8? Because one of them should be coming out of the line-up when Hecht gets healthy.
---Give credit to Darcy Regier for drafting the likes of Adam, Ennis and Gerbe. I know at times I've been critical of the way he's stuck with his guns with guys that should have been handed their walking papers a lot sooner (ee: Max and Connolly), but the guy knows how to draft kids.
---Two games in, and no Cellino & Barnes holograms. Please tell me this will continue for the next 80 games.
---I see what Lindy Ruff was thinking: Motivate Pomer by giving him the "C" and then piss off Vanek by giving him only the "A." Smart!
---Nathan Gerbe is awesome. I could watch that f#$ker play all night. He's a pesky bastard! Plus, any goal celebration photo that he's in is pure gold! (See: above)
---I really don't understand why the NHL couldn't space these two games out more. What is the point of having back-to-back games in two different countries? You could tell that both teams were sluggish in the first period because of playing and flying in the night before. No reason why the game couldn't take place tomorrow or Monday. If you are trying to sell the game to Europe, why not have these teams be at their freshest?
---Only complaint: I know Derek Roy's Twitter showed up in Europe. However, I didn't really notice him otherwise.
---BTW, tell Sports Illustrated to kiss our butts! 7th place in the conference?! Maybe it was payback because Peter King has been kissing the football team's ass?
---Nice to see that the pairing of #44 and #17 were on the ice for three of Buffalo's four goals. Having five guys from the point who can easily get the puck on net is a nice thing, right? Hell, we even saw #44 give a nice hip check during the 2nd period. I'm telling you, this blueline is the backbone of this team. They are that good. I'm still disappointed that Mike Weber isn't in the line-up, but who are you going to take out? Gragnani was lights out against the Flyers last year in the playoffs. Hey, it's a nice problem to have, right?
---YO! The Bills and Sabres are at the top of their divisions!? HELL HAS FROZEN OVER!
