Dinner Plates film screening
Friday 18th Jul, 2014
In continued support of his highly anticipated full length album, “Dance Party for the Heavy Hearted”, local hip-hop veteran, Chae Hawk, will unveil a new visual for album stand-out “Dinner Plates” at the Ujima Theatre on Fri., July 18.
At just over seven minutes in length, the feature film will be accompanied by artwork from Sarah Myers and Bobby Griffiths, as well as a DJ set from Fenbred. To round the evening out, visuals for DPFTHH singles “Remember This Night” and “Chin Ups” will also be shown. Executive producers on the project include Chad Michael Murray, Two Guys in a Boat, Love & Loyalty Tattoo, Buffalo Boy Productions, and Soul Space Salon & Yoga.
For nearly a decade Chae has been sharpening his skills and coining his own musical genre, Progressive Rap Cinema.
After three full-length albums, numerous side projects, and stints in Brooklyn, Chicago, Los Angeles and Connecticut, fans are faced with a truly refined artist - sensible and stylish, tailored and tough, charismatic and calculated. Now, back home in Buffalo, he continues to support his most conceptual and cinematic release to date, through short films, shows and showcases.
As the fourth visual from DPFTHH, and third directed by Alex Amoling, “Dinner Plates” shines thanks to striking imagery and visual effects, an organized plot, and consistency not only as a stand-alone piece, but also as a film within a series. The visuals, like the album they’re off of, are darker and at times seedy, but always boast underlying themes of positivity, motivation and the underdog spirit, all elements engraved in Chae as well as the city that raised him. The album certainly plays like a movie, and with “Dinner Plates”, Chae serves up another bite of the total package that is “Dance Party for the Heavy Hearted”, a labor of love that took him nearly four years to complete.
