Our 13th President, Millard Fillmore lived a good part of his life right here in WNY. During this unique day-long trolley tour, guests will learn about Fillmore’s influential impact on our community and the lifestyle he kept, before and after his political career.

Your experience begins with a presentation at Forest Lawn's Margaret L. Wendt Archive and Resource Center by Aurora Historical Society board member, Linda Ulrich-Hagner. This presentation will set the stage for the day as we look at Millard Fillmore’s life, his loves and his contributions; to include people, places and causes affected during his political and non-political career. As we board the Forest Lawn trolley we will be joined by the First Lady herself, Abigail Fillmore, for a narrated tour of Forest Lawn. Mrs. Fillmore will also highlight some of the other local presidential connections that are buried at Forest Lawn.
Then off to the quaint village of East Aurora for an “historic dining experience” at the national landmark, the Roycroft Inn. The lunch menu will be similar to what was served in Fillmore’s day while at the White House. Aurora Town Historian, Rob Goller, will provide an enjoyable guided tour of Millard Fillmore’s life in East Aurora. We stop to tour the Fillmore homestead on Shearer Avenue. The homestead is one of only 10 National Historic Landmarks in Erie County, and besides the White House, it is the only remaining house of the 13th president. The Aurora Historical Society acquired it in 1975 and began returning it to its circa 1826 state. Other stops will be the gravesites of Fillmore’s parents and places where he worked in East Aurora.
On our return to Buffalo, we will be passing by other Fillmore-related sites such as City Hall, Statler City, and The Buffalo Club to name a few. Journey with us through this fun-filled day while learning a lot about our hometown President and his family. Linda Ulrich-Hagner and Clare Root from the Aurora Historical Society will be your tour guides throughout the day.
Tour is offered on August 12, September 15 and October 13.
