On paper, the idea of getting creative minds together to share their thoughts and vision seems simple enough. Put like-minded people in a room and good things will happen. But the execution of such a simple concept is never as easy as it sounds. That’s why, when an event like PechaKucha comes along,  the local design community is quickly buzzing.

The organization’s website explains PechaKucha as follows:

"PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It's a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace. "

It’s as simple as that, 6 minutes 40 seconds to say and show whatever you like. then it’s time to sit down and listen to the next batch of ideas. It is so beautifully simple that the event has spread across the entire planet in the last eight years; currently there are 380 cities worldwide hosting PechaKucha events.

In past events, the work on display has ranged from an artist manipulating genetic sequencing, to a custom leather handbag maker, to a performance art piece in which the artist shaved off his own beard with a home-made electric shaver/camera. There is no telling what form the creativity of this city will take, but rest assured it will be entertaining, it will make you think and it will almost certainly stir the creative juices deep within you.

The 10th PechaKucha Buffalo event is around the corner and it’s time to get excited and make your plans to attend. No word yet on who is presenting, least of all what they’re planning to show, but the surprise of eclectic areas of focus is half the fun! PechaKucha is  art/design/creativity at it’s most elemental and PechaKucha Buffalo #10 promises to bring that excitement to our doorstep once again. See you there!
