The Day in the Life of the Buffalo River
Thursday 29th Sep, 2016
The Historic Buffalo River Tour
P.O. Box 506 Buffalo , NYThis program is designed to celebrate the Buffalo River system and educate participants on the uniqueness of our local water resources. The event is coordinated by the Friends of Reinstein Nature Preserve. Many local environmental groups are teamed with students at various sites along the Buffalo River. Together they create a day-in-the-life picture of the river from the headwaters in North Java to the mouth at Lake Erie.
Several local schools collect data at sampling sites along the Buffalo River and its three tributaries: Buffalo Creek, Cayuga Creek and Cazenovia Creek. At each site participants observe and document several parameters on the river. Groups share their results, gaining a better understanding of this historic and vital river system. This event is held once a year in the early fall and is designed for middle and high-school students.
