Art Alive 2016
Saturday 4th Jun, 2016
Albright-Knox Art Gallery
1285 Elmwood Avenue Buffalo, NY 14222Participants create living representations—often called tableaux—of famous works of art on the grounds of the Albright-Knox using people, props, and even music. There will be music, art activities, and FREE admission to the museum on this 20th anniversary of Art Alive.
The entire community is invited to see the overwhelming creativity on display, and vote for your favorite tableaux in the People’s Choice Awards.
More than $1,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to winning tableaux. Celebrity judges will select the Best Tableau from the Albright-Knox’s Collection or AK Public Art, the Handyman Award for Best Craftsmanship, and the Off-the-Beaten-Path Award for Most Unusual Entry. These awards will be given in each category (Grades K–8, Grades 9–12, and Adult/Family/Group).
To commemorate the event, the Albright-Knox has partnered with local artist Brian Nesline to create a Faces of Buffalo community art mosaic. The mosaic will feature thousands of self-portraits arranged to look like the museum’s iconic Delaware Stairs overlooking the Delaware Park and Hoyt Lake. Participate by submitting a colorful drawing of your face on the official drawing form, available at the Faces of Buffalo website (www.facesofbuffalo.com), at M&T FIRST FRIDAYS @ THE GALLERY on May 6 and June 3, and at Art Alive on June 4. Official drawing forms should be returned to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Attn: Education Department, 1285 Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14222; dropped off at the Admissions Desk by June 4; or brought to Art Alive on June 4. Visit the Faces of Buffalo website to pre-order your copy of this collectible print.
