Buffalo Seminary Spotlight Tour
Saturday 27th Apr, 2019
Explore Buffalo’s Spotlight Tour: Buffalo Seminary, will be offered at 10 and 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at Buffalo Seminary, 205 Bidwell Parkway, Buffalo.
Buffalo Seminary’s picturesque building has been a landmark on Bidwell Parkway since opening in 1909. Begun in 1851 as the Buffalo Female Academy, the school was established to provide a quality education for the daughters of Buffalo’s elite, on par with their male counterparts. It is the only nonsectarian private high school for girls in Western New York. Originally located on Johnson Park, students attended classes at the Twentieth Century Club in the early 1900s before the Bidwell Parkway school was completed.
With additions and renovations throughout its history, Buffalo Seminary’s campus on Bidwell Parkway remains a prestigious school for young Buffalo women to attend. This tour, led by Buffalo Seminary administrators, will include the main building, Colby Room, outdoor courtyard, and an interior look at some of the housing for boarding students. Join Explore Buffalo to learn more about the history of Buffalo Seminary, including some of its notable teachers and alumnae, while touring its historic campus.
The tour will meet at the front entrance to Buffalo Seminary at 205 Bidwell Parkway. Abundant street parking can be found on Bidwell and other nearby streets.
Space on this tour is limited and reservations are required. The tour is approximately 90 minutes in length, and interior photography is permitted. The cost is $25 general admission or $20 for Explorer Pass holders. To purchase tickets, please visit explorebuffalo.org or call (716) 245-3032.
