Katherine Sehr: "Small Obsessions" Exhibition
Friday 30th Jan, 2015 → Friday 13th Mar, 2015
The Western New York Book Arts Center presents "Katherine Sehr: Small Obsessions", an exhibition by Katherine Sehr on view from January 30th through March 13th, 2015. An opening reception to celebrate the exhibition will be held on Friday, January 30th from 6pm-9pm. This event is free and open to the public.
"Small Obsessions" is a series of large-scale meditative color field drawings produced from 2006-2014. Sehr’s work represents her skill and discipline as an artist merged with her past experience as a performer, combining expression, movement, timing, intuition and discipline into each drawing. Her drawings are heavily driven by process and follow a variation of pattern, representing a slow accumulation of lines across the paper. The use of color is limited which is both subtle and calming, mirroring her process. Sehr draws her inspiration from a number of different sources including Taoism, calligraphy, philosophy, driving, mathematics, dancing, history, and art history.
Katherine Sehr (born 1978) is a visual artist who lives and works in Buffalo, N.Y. She received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute Chicago with a concentration in print media. She was featured in the 2007 installment of Beyond / In Western New York. In 2008 she was represented at Art Miami by Dwight Hackett Projects, Santa Fe, New Mexico. She was formerly represented by Nina Freudenheim Gallery in Buffalo.
