Spotlight Tour: Inside Buffalo Harbor Museum
Sunday 26th Feb, 2017
Join us for the first monthly Spotlight Tour of 2017 when Explore Buffalo and the Buffalo Harbor Museum present a behind the scenes look at the Museum’s archives and storage that are not open to the public. In addition to the vast display of objects of historic, artistic and scientific interest that are on the first floor of the museum, 20 to 30 minute mini-tours of storage areas will be led by knowledgeable museum personnel, chaperoned by Explore Buffalo volunteers.
This is an “Inside Parka Tour” – as these storage areas are NOT heated, please be sure to dress warmly – boots, gloves, and a hat are recommended. The first tour will start at 1:15 and the last will start at 3:15. Allow at least 60 minutes in total to enjoy this unique collection of models, maps, ship artifacts, personal gear, logbooks, and more. Examples from several collections of period photos and of archived newspapers from the mid-1800s to the 1970s will also be on display. Learn about the Museum’s Research Library, and read firsthand accounts of some famous Buffalo marine disasters!
Please also note the areas of the mini-tours are NOT handicap accessible as several flights of stairs are involved. The main museum is handicap accessible if you enter from Pearl St. General photos during the tour are allowed, but no direct photos of photos on walls or displays are allowed. The first floor museum has a gift shop. After your tour, please enjoy complimentary hot chocolate!
