Why is botany important for home gardeners? Understanding the basics of how plants work can help you grow better plants in your vegetable, flower, and landscape gardens. Using botany, we will investigate plant life forms and their functions of growth, metabolism, ecological roles and more. Discover the inner workings of seeds and seed germination, plant tissues and water movement in plants, plant life cycles, pollination, reproduction, and photosynthesis!

Meet your instructor, David Clark!

David Clark has been teaching gardeners across western New York and further places, including the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens.

David is currently the New York State Nursery and Landscape Association’s Certified Nursery and Landscape Professional of the year, and a certified Landscape Maintenance Technician via the National Association of Landscape Professionals. He is also an accomplished garden writer.

David’s educational style is scientific while being understandable He can even be a bit humorous to get information across to students. His fine excellence in teaching has led to being listed as one of the top twenty horticulture educators in the country.
