Erie Canal Bicentennial

The Erie Canal had a major impact on Western New York and the heartland of the United States. Derided as “Clinton’s folly” after NY Governor DeWitt Clinton, the canal was completed in 1825, and brought unbridled economic prosperity to Buffalo at its western terminus.
