On the Edge of Violence and Nonviolence: The Challenging Words of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam
Sunday 2nd Apr, 2017
All three of the Abrahamic religions—Judaism, Christianity, and Islam—have followers who have cited their sacred texts to justify both horrific acts of violence and heroic efforts for peace. How is it possible that people can come to such opposite conclusions about the teachings of their Scriptures on such a vital topic? This presentation will examine some of the key verses used by Jews, Christians, and Muslims to support their beliefs about violence and nonviolence and identify some of the benefits and dangers of using such texts to guide our lives today. The program will include a celebration of the 10th anniversary of the SSJ Sister Karen Klimczak Center for Nonviolence and a reception will follow. Tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased online at sisterkarencenter.org or at the door. Call 362.9688 for more information.
