Save Virachey National Park Fundraiser
Thursday 20th Aug, 2015
Live music by Folkfaces, RadaRada and DJ Crespo, plus a charity auction and 50-50 drawing to benefit Cambodia's Virachey National Park, which is still home to a plethora of wildlife. Food by Pawlowski's Pierogi's and drinks will be available.
If you cannot attend the first "Save Virachey National Park" Buffalo fundraiser., please donate! All funds raised by this campaign will support the wildlife camera-trapping program currently underway in this Park in Cambodia. See our latest video on Mongabay, and the article in the Phnom Penh Post. You can also have a look at the project we did in Thailand.
Our Virachey project is ongoing, but we are in need of funds to pay for ranger patrols, especially in the Vietnam border area where poachers, miners, and loggers cross over illegally into Cambodia to plunder the park. We also need funding to pay the VNP ranger's daily supply allowance (DSA) when they check on our camera traps, and of course there are expenses for new memory cards, lithium batteries, and silica desiccants to keep the cameras dry. Our work as was recently cited in an excellent article on dholes in The Guardian.
We are a conservation group that specializes in going into underprioritised protected areas (PAs) and doing wildlife surveys that local governments and NGOs cannot or will not do. Our mission is to prove that these "paper parks" (national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, or other PAs that exist on paper but in reality get little or no real protection in the form of ranger patrols or government support) are worth being treated as "real" parks with adequate protection because of the wildlife they still shelter.
