MASS IN BLUE: A BPC Cornerstone Concert of Blues, Jazz, and Gospel Music

The Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus presents this year’s Cornerstone Concert: MASS IN BLUE, Will Todd’s blues-jazz fusion setting of the Latin Mass. Paired with that is acclaimed American composer Andre Thomas’ MASS: A CELEBRATION OF LOVE AND JOY. Presented in collaboration with the University at Buffalo School of Music, this concert will pair a professional Jazz ensemble with the Chorus at the impeccable Lippes Concert Hall at Slee Hall.

These twenty-first century mass settings are musical explorations of the familiar mass texts that have graced countless choral-orchestral masterpieces,  paired here in extraordinary settings, infusing blues and jazz rhythms, as well as influence from the African-American gospel tradition. Together, these two works offer our audiences a Cornerstone Concert unlike anything the BPC has presented before. Before the BPC takes the stage, a special performance by the Boys & Girls Club After School Choir will occur, facilitated by BPC teaching artists.
