Warren Quigley, "Erratic"
Buffalo Arts Studio is excited to present “Erratic” by artist Warren Quigley, an installation of 37 wooden spheres of varying scales on view from May 22 through August 1, 2026. An opening reception will be held on Friday, May 22, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm as part of M&T Fourth Friday at Tri-Main.
“Erratic” challenges anthropocentric worldviews and reveals a core paradox: the more we learn in our pursuit of control over our environment, the more we become aware of our own vulnerability. Carved from fallen tree trunks and limbs, Quigley’s interest in spheres are due to their universality, frequency of appearance, and rare state of balance and uniformity in nature.
Made between 2010 to 2017, Quigley guides these spheres into the present by layering recent musings as projections onto the forms. This contemporary text emerges from an embattled state of mind grappling with control over cognition and memory. Incorporating these personal struggles continues Quigley’s ongoing exploration of dystopia through the optimistic lens of poetic contemplation and wit.
