Builders of the Canal Tour at the Waterway of Change Exhibit
Take a trip back in time at the Waterway of Change exhibit! Walk the land of the canal and "step into the shoes” of someone who lived and worked there. Come away with a deeper understanding of the lasting impact the Erie Canal had on New York and the country as a whole.
Come explore the triumph and tragedies of the Erie Canal. Look through the lens of the innovators, engineers, and laborers who faced overwhelming hurdles while completing this massive feat. Learn about the vision George Washington had for the canal and how Dewitt Clinton adapted it to New York State.
Please note that these tours will begin inside the Waterways of Change exhibit at the Longshed building (44 Prime St.) and continue outside the exhibit. There is walking involved in different types of terrain. Please contact Megan DeJoe at Mdejoe@buffalohistory.org for questions.
