Tour the local gardens nestled between the beautiful homes of the Parkside neighborhood, the suburb designed by Olmsted in 1870, during the 19th Annual Parkside Garden and Architecture Tour on Sunday, June 26th from 10 am to 4 pm. The tour begins in the heart of the Parkside community, outside of the historic Church of the Good Shepherd, 96 Jewett Parkway, across the street from the Darwin Martin House complex. A full color map and garden directory will be available for $5 on the day of the tour. The maps will direct you to the highlighted gardens and "Parkside Architecture Notes” will be posted throughout the neighborhood, pointing to design elements of our homes.

For those wishing to further explore this historic Fredrick Law Olmsted-designed neighborhood, there will be guided walking tours highlighting architectural styles and elements interspersed with local Gilded Age residents’ history and folklore. Sign up on the day of the Tour for this limited enrollment tour for $10, on a first-come, first-served basis.

On the day of the tour, you can also explore the site of the future gardens of Frank Lloyd Wright's prairie-style architectural masterpiece, the Darwin Martin House, where plans are underway to restore the once extensive Wright designed landscape. Remnants of the historic greenhouse are still visible and attest to the importance of cut flowers and flowering plants to Mrs. Martin. Volunteers as well as the Horticulturist, Nellie Gardner, will be on hand to answer questions. Historic photos will be displayed in the Visitors Center and there will be free toursof the Conservatory.

Finally, we will have food trucks and James' Ice Cream Cycles throughout the neighborhood or dine on local fare at our new local restaurants on Parkside Avenue.

This event is sponsored by the Parkside Community Association, one of Buffalo's oldest incorporated neighborhood associations. All money raised helps support continuing non-profit programs of the Parkside Community Association—among them are the Summer Arts Camp for kids, Aging in Place, Crime Prevention, Housing Advocacy, Arts and Crafts Show, Traffic Safety, the renowned Parkside Tour of Homes and the popular free summer “Movies in the Meadow” series.
